Operation Clean Ganga - Guddu Baba

Source  : DNA
Writer  : Shivani Sinha / Edited by Swati Bhasin

First man to rise up to the cause

Forerunner of the ‘Save Ganga’ campaign, Guddu Baba sat on a 48-hour long fast at G.P. Circle in the city on December 31, 1998  after his encounter with the man bathing in the sewage. He wanted to draw the attention of the authorities in slumber. “I shared this incident with Captain Vijay Bahadur, instructor of flying club, Patna. We wrote to all the higher officials of Patna appealing them to work for Ganga,” he remembers.

His slogans –  “Ganga ki dhara ko wapas lao” (Bring back the clean currents of Ganga), “ Ganga putro jago” (Wake up! Oh, son of Ganga), “ Ganga ko pollution free karo” (Free Ganga of the pollution)– and his initiative of cleaning  Ganga soon found resonance among Patnaites. It was for the first time that a common man had come out to save Ganges. Guddu Baba was already featuring in headlines.

'Compassionate capitalism' urged for India

Indian entrepreneur Narayan Murthy, founder of global software giant Infosys, says "compassionate capitalism" is the only solution to poverty in the country.

Narayan Murthy: One of the world's most admired business leaders
Debate is currently raging throughout India over the economic policy of the new government, following a lukewarm media response and stock market jitters.
But Mr Murthy told BBC World Service's The Interview programme that more had to be done to drive entrepreneurial activity.
"We believe that if India has to solve its problem of poverty, we have to embrace capitalism, ensure that jobs are created, and make sure that market-driven policies are accepted," he said.
"However, to do that, the people who are the evangelists of capitalism, must conduct themselves in a manner that will appeal to the masses."People must be able to relate to them easily. They must lead a normal life, a simple life, and people must be able to say, 'look, if these jokers can do it, we can do it better'."

Source : Share Your Story
Writer  : Sahil

Journey from Astron Cinema to 1000 crore company

Chandubhai Virani started his career by selling snacks at the Astron cinema, Rajkot. Four decade later Balaji wafers and namkeens hold a 65% market share in 5 states.

Slowly after moving from the cinema, he along with his brothers started making wafers in house. They would make wafers and he would go on his Luna to the local shops to sell them.

He was very selective about the potatoes that he used. Balaji wafers were then sold in a transparent bag while its competitors were already much large in terms of marketing. Slowly in the 90’s the industry saw growth. The production grew from 1000kg of potatoes to 5000 kg per hour and thus a desi brand was giving tough competition to the foreign brands like Frito lay.

Mind v/s Consciousness

Article : Sudhir Pai

Mind and consciousness are two different sides of the coin.

We can have an Hindu mind. But there is no Hindu Consciousness.
We can have a Jewish mind. But there is no Jewish Consciousness.

Pure consciousness is a No Mind Zone. Pure Silence. Total Bliss.

Meditation is all about moving from Mind to Consciousness. Mind is like a river. Ever flowing. Ever Changing. Consciousness is absolute. A silent witness. Mind is limited by time and consciousness expresses itself in timelessness.

Mind can be explained. Consciousness can only be felt and experienced. Mind is like a fire. If not handled properly, mind kills.

Consciousness heals. It soothes. It is relaxing.

Friedrich Nietzsche has declared that God is dead. God is not dead on the contrary, what has happened is that matter is dead. Matter has been found not to exist at all. This insight into matter brings modern physics very close to mysticism, very close. For the first time the scientist and the mystic are coming very close, almost holding hands.

Eddington, one of the greatest scientists of this age, has said, "We used to think that matter is a thing; now it is no more so. Matter is more like a thought than like a thing."

Existence is energy. Science has discovered that the observed is energy, the object is energy. Down through the ages, at least for five thousand years, it has been known that the other polarity the subject, the observer, consciousness is energy.

What is Love ?

Article - Sudhir Pai

Love is like breathing.

People are frustrated in their love experiences, because they want to hold it tight and actually forget about it's real essence.

When love is external - it is limited.

When love is internal - it is infinite.

When we try to find love outside, it is a temporary experience with high chance of leading to frustration.

Instead of finding love, become an ocean of love. Start loving yourself without judgement. Love every moment. Love every cell in your body.

Love the trees. Love the animals around. Love those rivers. Love those mountains. Love those butterfly.

Love every atom in universe.

This is one of the way to merge with cosmic oneness.

Just ask yourself - Can I become love infinite ?

Satyam Shivam Sundaram ( Truth, Love, Bliss ) is our inherent nature.

So - Don't wait for love.

Become Love.

Live Your Passion

From My Book - ( Think Like A Winner )
Page 9 - Author - Sudhir Pai

After a successful training session, one day, I was travelling by local train in Mumbai from my office to home. The gentleman sitting in the adjoining seat went on talking for almost half an hour on photography with his friend. He really seemed to have a depth and wide knowledge on the subject. After he finished, I could not help asking him,” Are you a photographer?” He said “No, I am a Mechanical Engineer by training but I want to take up photography as a career. That is where my real interest lies. I have tried several times to get into that field without success. What is the point in earning money working for something you don’t like and then spending the same money in case any health problem arises? It’s not easy to switch professions”. It is a pity that training and education are given more importance than natural talent.

In real life, we have untrained actors like Amitabh Bachchan, untrained lateral thinkers like Dhirubhai Ambani, untrained geniuses like mathematician Ramanujan and even some nobel prize winners who frankly admitted that their success was because of lack of formal training on the subjects which enabled them to do out of the box thinking. Subhash Ghai trained as an actor but became a director, Ravi Shastri trained as a bowler but became a batsman, Salim Khan trained as an actor but became a writer ( In the book the making of Sholay, he admits that he had the gift of conception but not the gift of projection). If these people could be successful, why should other people who find their vocations late in life, not be a given an opportunity. Should their whole lives be ruined because of one wrong decision?

A few days back I heard a religious discourse where the speaker said that somebody asked Swami Vivekanand, ” How wise are you?” He said that I am more a fool and less a wise man because I am wise in only one thing and a fool in all the rest. Imagine a man of the stature of Swami Vivekanand saying a thing like that. Though Swamiji said that and the literal meaning of the word education is to draw out what is already in, it does not happen in real life as a result of which there is lifelong misery like the one mentioned above. Do not people who made a wrong decision once deserve a new chance? Should not more proactive attempts be made to know early in life where one is wise and where one is a fool to enable you to prosper emotionally and financially.

As Aamir Khan in his film 3 Idiots has rightly said >>> Don’t chase success …. Excel in your profession …. And success will start chasing you !!!

Wise words indeed !!

Best Wishes - Sudhir Pai
